The Bernese Mountain Dog is originally from Switzerland where they lived for generations as farm dogs, to herd and protect cattle and sheep. Sometimes they were used as draft dogs. In the winter they love to play in the snow, jump in a snow bank and dig into it. A lot of fun to see!! Because they have a thick coat they do not get as cold as other dogs. Winter is enjoyable for them. They are great companions and very faithful family dogs. Excellent with children and love to play with them. They are easy to train because of their high intelligence and they love to please their owners.
